TQ Fusion - The 26 Form - 4 Styles in Harmony - Plus Taiji Yang Sheng Zhang

As autumn arrives and the season begins to turn, this Thursday morning class offers a steady place to gather, breathe, and move with intention. Autumn is a time of change — a season of letting go, refining, and returning to what is essential. In this spacious 1.5-hour practice, students are invited to settle into the rhythm of Tai Chi and Qigong, building balance, coordination, calm focus, and inner steadiness as the year gently shifts toward winter.

In this class, students will be introduced to the 26 Form – Four Styles in Harmony, a beautiful Tai Chi routine that brings together the flavour, rhythm, and movement qualities of four major Taijiquan styles: Yang, Chen, Sun, and Wu. Rather than focusing on one single style, this form offers students an opportunity to experience how different Tai Chi traditions can work together in one flowing practice.

Yang-style movements bring softness, spaciousness, and graceful continuity; Chen-style influences add spiralling energy and a deeper sense of rooted power; Sun-style movements offer lightness, agility, and open stepping; and Wu-style qualities encourage refined posture, subtle alignment, and calm internal focus.

This class is well-suited for newbies, beginners, and returning students who are ready to explore a Tai Chi form in a supportive, step-by-step environment. Students will learn movements on both sides of the body, helping to build balance, coordination, body awareness, and confidence in motion. The routine offers a meaningful introduction to Tai Chi principles such as softness and strength, opening and closing, weight shifting, turning, grounding, and flowing from one movement into the next.

To enrich the practice, this class will also include Taiji Yangsheng Zhang – Tai Chi Stick Qigong, a graceful Health Qigong routine practised with a short stick. Stick Qigong helps students extend their awareness beyond the hands, encouraging smoother movement through the shoulders, spine, waist, and whole body. The stick becomes a gentle guide for posture, breath, coordination, and intention, making the practice both grounding and uplifting.

Together, the 26 Form and Tai Chi Stick Qigong create a well-rounded class experience: part Tai Chi form learning, part Qigong cultivation, and part mindful movement journey. Students will develop greater ease, steadiness, flexibility, and focus while enjoying a practice that is traditional in spirit, practical for modern students, and deeply enjoyable to learn over time.

Beginning Again

Each Tai Chi form teaches us to begin again. The rhythm of learning mirrors the rhythm of life itself: endings, renewals, and the quiet confidence that what you’ve cultivated will carry forward. For long-timers, this means: When we “start anew,” we’re not starting over — we’re starting from within. The form may change, but the heart of Tai Chi remains the same: breath by breath, step by step, the practice keeps meeting you exactly where you are — and guiding you toward where you’re meant to be.

For New students, either with a small amount of experience or for those who are newbies, starting a Tai Chi form is a whole new adventure.

TEACHING TQSPIRIT BEGINNERS WITH TQFUSION

The TQSpirit specializes in teaching Newbies and Beginners in various styles of Tai Chi and Health Qigong. We gently guide everyone through the foundational movements, transitions, end postures and sequences with clear, simple instructions. From the very first class, students experience how these two arts complement one another — Tai Chi’s refining structure, alignment, and flowing transitions, side-by-side with Qigong, cultivating breath, internal awareness, and whole-body vitality. This helps:

  • Build confidence in the basic postures and flow.
  • Develop the essential skills of balance, better coordination, and body awareness through mindful repetition.
  • Cultivate calm focus with relaxed breathing that supports both Tai Chi form and Qigong practice.
  • Learn the skill of how to move mindfully with intention, not tension, and without feeling overwhelmed or rushed.
  • Build a Bridge to More Complex Forms: Learning one tai chi form serves as a springboard toward more advanced sequences. This creates a continuity in your Tai Chi journey.
  • New TQSpirit students learn quickly about the benefits of practice, and how fun it can be to learn and relearn tai chi forms. Daily or weekly practice, with videos to help remember the moves, helps create a strong, solid base.
TEACHING AND PRACTISING WITH LONG-TIME PRACTITIONERS
    • Many long-time practitioners enjoy our weekly TQSpirit classes — some with 15 to 30 years of experience, enjoying the practice alongside newbies and beginners. With each new form, or familiar form revisited, we continue to train together — deepening internal awareness, refining breath integration, and exploring the subtle dialogue between Tai Chi structure and Qigong energy cultivation.
    • Experienced practitioners understand that re-learning a Tai Chi form is not a step back — it is a return to the heart of practice. As the body changes and awareness matures, each movement reveals new layers. Qigong principles — softness within strength, rootedness within flow, breath guiding movement — become more refined over time..
    • Long-timers know you never step into the same form twice. Each practice reveals something new because you are new. What you bring today — your breath, your balance, your lived experience — shapes how Tai Chi expresses itself through you. In community, this shared revisiting becomes a practice of renewal, reflection, and discovery.
    • No matter your experience level, TQSpirit invites you to move beyond memorizing steps. Here, Tai Chi and Qigong are practised together — structure and breath, movement and stillness — allowing you to experience the art from the inside out, welcoming each moment as part of your evolving journey.
WHY JOIN THIS CLASS?
    • Learn the 26 Form – Four Styles in Harmony: Explore a beautiful Tai Chi routine inspired by Yang, Chen, Sun, and Wu-style qualities.
    • Experience Tai Chi on Both Sides of the Body: Practising movements on both sides helps develop balance, coordination, confidence, and whole-body awareness.
    • Enjoy a Longer 1.5-Hour Practice: The extended class time allows for warm-up, review, form learning, Qigong practice, and more spacious instruction.
    • Practise Tai Chi Stick Qigong: The short stick helps guide posture, breath, coordination, shoulder movement, spinal awareness, and whole-body flow.
    • Build Steadiness and Confidence: This class supports balance, flexibility, focus, relaxation, and mindful movement in a welcoming learning environment.
    • Feel Part of a Supportive Community: Students learn together step by step, with encouragement, patience, and the steady rhythm of shared practice.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE SECOND CLASS
        • For the Tai Chi Stick Qigong portion of this class, students will need a short practice stick.Traditionally, the stick was made from materials such as branches of the white wax tree, pine, or bamboo. These sticks were smooth and even, and some were decorated with carvings or health-related text. No need to bring it to the first class.
        • Traditional Tai Chi sticks can be very beautiful, and some are designed to come apart for travel. However, they can also be quite expensive, so we strongly suggest waiting before purchasing a specialty stick online. For your first stick, we recommend a simple and affordable option from the hardware store. A wooden dowel works beautifully for class practice and gives you a chance to learn the form before deciding whether you would like to purchase a more formal Tai Chi stick later. You may even wish to decorate your dowel yourself and make it your own. More specific stick details, including size, diameter, and placement of the notches, will be provided before class begins.
        • Photos and examples will also be shared so students can feel confident choosing or preparing the right practice stick.
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS IN-PERSON CLASS
        • This class takes place at North Lonsdale United Church, a welcoming North Vancouver location with a spacious practice area, free parking, and a calm morning atmosphere that supports focused learning. Students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and flat, flexible indoor shoes suitable for gentle movement, balance practice, and turning.
        • Each class will include a thoughtful blend of warm-ups, Tai Chi form instruction, review, and Qigong practice. Because this is a 1.5-hour class, students will have more time to settle into the body, repeat key movements, ask questions, and gradually build familiarity with both the 26 Form and Tai Chi Stick Qigong.
        • New students do not need to know Tai Chi or Qigong before joining. The class will be taught step by step, with care, encouragement, and attention to different learning speeds. Returning students will also benefit from refining posture, transitions, breath, coordination, and internal awareness.
        • This is a class for learning, practising, remembering, and growing. Over the session, students will be encouraged to move with more ease, breathe with more awareness, and discover how Tai Chi and Qigong can bring steadiness, vitality, and calm focus into everyday life.
      MORE INFORMATION ABOUT QIGONG
        • Qigong is a gentle yet powerful practice that combines movement, breath, posture, intention, and awareness. It is often described as energy cultivation, but in class it is also very practical: students learn how to soften tension, improve coordination, support balance, and move with greater ease.
        • In Tai Chi Stick Qigong, the stick becomes a helpful extension of the body. It encourages students to feel the connection between the hands, shoulders, spine, waist, legs, and feet. Rather than moving only from the arms, students begin to sense how the whole body can participate in one smooth, connected movement.
        • Qigong practice is not about forcing or performing. It is about listening, softening, repeating, and gradually discovering a more relaxed and integrated way of moving. For many students, this becomes one of the most enjoyable parts of class — a chance to breathe, settle, and feel the body awaken from the inside out.
