HOW TO REGISTER FOR A DROP-IN

If you want to drop into a class to determine if it is right for you, that option is available anytime for Chinese Health Qigong classes on either Tuesday mornings, Live-On-Zoom only or on Saturday mornings, where we have both In-Person and Live-On-Zoom options.

Qigong classes are easy to follow and do not require any experience. Newbies and long-timers are all welcome.

However, dropping into a Tai Chi class will only be available for the first few weeks in the session, unless you have authorization from the Instructor. Learning Tai Chi requires being instructed in the basics, and since basics are usually taught in the first few weeks, it is especially important for Newbies that they start as close to the beginning of the session as possible. If you have experience in tai chi and drop-ins are no longer available, please contact the Instructor by email or phone and request the option to drop-in.

DROP-INS on Zoom

  • We request that you register and sign up at least 12 hours before the start of the class so that you are assured of getting your Zoom link.
  • Since we only accept E-transfer for Zoom Only classes, you must submit your E-transfer fee at least ½ hour to the start of the class.

DROP-INS In-Person

  • We request that you register as an In-Person Drop-In as soon as you know you can attend.
  • You can also email us to let us know you will be an In-Person drop-in. You can register on location.
  • In-Person Drop-Ins can pay cash at the door or send us an E-transfer when signing in on location.
  • We accept Cash (In-person only) or E-transfer for payment of Drop-In fees.

FOUR-PACKS

  • Four packs are only available for the Qigong classes. Important: All 4 classes must be used in that “session.” The Sessions are from September – December, January – March, and April – July. It will not be possible for us to give credit for any unused pre-paid classes in that session.

NEED HELP to REGISTER? Some people find signing up online challenging. If that is the case CONTACT US for help in registering for a class. We are here to help make it easy. But if all you need is just a few more details on how to sign up, you’ll find it all right here.

  • Go to the LOGIN/CREATE page
  • Read Special Instructions for Drop-In Students HERE
  • Create your profile, answering all the required questions.
  • Choose your classes by filling in the CART and Check Out.
  • You can choose to pay “at the door” if you are In-Person. If you are Zoom you must pay prior to the start of the class.

FREQUENTY ASKED QUESTIONS

NEW STUDENTS – What to Wear & What to Expect

At TQSpirit we offer two types of classes: Tai Chi and Chinese Health & Wellness Qigong classes.

Our classes are designed to help people enhance their overall health and wellness, while learning about the principles and concepts within Internal Martial Arts and Chinese Health Qigong.

Both types of classes are designed to help those who wish to improve their body posture, balance, over-all body-mind-spirit coordination and strength and stamina.

To achieve this, it is important that you know what to wear and what to expect from each class.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM EACH CLASS

  • We encourage our students to come early to warm-up, meet new like-minded students, or just chat with friends outside the gymnasium (if there is another class in session). We hope that you will meet others who enjoy learning and practicing tai chi and qigong.
  • We do our best to start and end on time. We’d appreciate if you cannot attend, or will be away for more than 2 weeks, please let us now.
  • Some of our classes are hybrid, which means we have both In-Person and On-Zoom options. Where Zoom options exist, we require all our In-Person students to also be registered on Zoom,in advance,  just in case. That way, if you are not feeling well, or are travelling, you can still attend our classes.  Sometimes students zoom in because they have been stuck in traffic and so it is time-wise more efficient to Zoom In from home.
  • If you are a newbie, try to find a spot in the gym that is not in the front or at the sides. It is best to start in the middle of the pack so that you can watch others who might be more experienced than yourself.
  • Our Instructor teaches in a relaxed, not rigid fashion. Our students do bow to the Instructor, and you’ll be taught how, and the Instructor bows to all students. Respect for each other is important.

WHAT TO WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?

SHOES?

  • We suggest that students wear soft soled, flexible shoes that are suitable for a gymnasium-style floor.
  • Your choice of shoes is an important part of learning Tai Chi or Qigong. Comfort is key.
  • Some shoes are better for your balance than others. Test them out on a hard surface.
  • If your balance is poor to begin with then:
    • We do not recommend open-toed shoes, sandals, hiking boots or high heeled shoes. Tai Chi “slippers” are also not recommended as they do not have a lot of support or stability.
  • Try not to wear running shoes that have a sharp ridge on the sole. Rounded soles are better, similar to badminton, squash or some tennis shoes.
  • Shoes with shock absorbent pads will be more comfortable.
  • Wear shoes that permit good ankle flexibility.
  • Socks only are not permitted as they can be dangerous if the floor is slippery.
  • Bare feet are not permitted because we cannot guarantee what might be on the floor. It is sometimes hard to see sharp objects.

CLOTHING?

  • Everyone is asked to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that has no movement restrictions. We don’t want any impediment from our clothes when you move. Jeans, belts, and clothing that is restrictive, is not recommended.
  • No uniforms are required.
  • Wear layers as sometimes the gym can get cool and at other times, quite warm, depending on the time of year.
  • Breathable fabrics are best.
  • Your pants should not be too long as we don’t want you to slide on them as you step out.

EXTRAS?

  • Jewellery that clinks or clangs as you move are not permitted as in a quiet tai chi or qigong class they can be distracting to others.
  • Our classes are perfume/cologne/deodorant scent-free zones.

SCENT-FREE GYM?

  • We try to keep our gym scent-free so that all students feel comfortable attending, especially those with allergies or sensitivities to perfume or deodorant.
  • Please do not wear perfume, and if possible, use scent-free deodorant and soaps.
