2023 Saturday Qigong – Awakening the Spirit

2023 classes – Saturday “Awakening the Spirit” Qigong – Students will learn a wide variety of Chinese Health Qigong forms.

Drop Ins are still available in November and December 2023. If you wish to register for 2024 classes, please do so as soon as possible as In-Person classes fill up very quickly.

Health and Medical Qigong are exercises and breathing methods that can help induce calm, relaxation, release stress, depression, grief, and anxiety. Along with eating properly, sleeping adequately, exercising, and managing stress, we can all boost our immune system by practicing Qigong.

Every class begins with a warm-up that slowly warms up the body and the spirit to music that beautifully accompanies each set of exercises. Every class includes deep breathing exercises, energy work, as well as stretching, balancing and strengthening exercises. Each week the Saturday Qigong forms we practice will be different from that which is practiced in our Tuesday morning Qigong classes. Practicing twice a week is a great option, especially if you are seeking rejuvenation in your mind, body or spirit.

What is especially unique about this Saturday Qigong class is that you have the option to be In-Person, with a wonderful community of like-minded health enthusiasts, feeling the Qi in a large gym with others, or be at home and comfortable in your own space, Live-On-Zoom. Both In-Person and Live-On-Zoom will happen together, at the same time. Additionally, In-Person students can choose to be Live-On-Zoom whenever they wish. We have people zooming in from all over the world.

Qigong is an ancient exercise that looks like Tai Chi, and is the mother of Tai Chi, but it is easier in some respects. With Qigong, you can choose to memorize the forms (sets of exercises or meditations that are standing, sitting or lying down), or, in our classes, you can just follow along. No memorization required. With Tai Chi, in order to get the most benefits, it is especially advantageous to memorize the basics and practice the form (a choreography of movement where the footwork travels along the floor about 5-7 feet in length).

Qigong is a moving meditation that combines: gentle movement, deep breathing, meditation, and a positive mental focus. Qigong has its concepts rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. This ancient system of healthcare focuses on the flow of qi or energy.

Simply put, if the qi is moving smoothly, we will be healthy. If the qi is deficient, excessive, or stagnant we will feel discomfort or unwell. The goal of Qigong practice is to move stagnant qi and strengthen weak qi. In our classes, both In-Person and On-Zoom, we will practice and be stronger together. It is a wonderful community of like-minded health-oriented enthusiasts. Qigong is becoming more and more popular with adults who have busy, stressful lives. It is a myth that Tai Chi and Qigong is “just for seniors.”
